except this time i'm getting paid! spent a couple weeks with some old friends in NM & CO and now Rose and i are on our own. i'd planned on being in NM for a month but as soon as i crossed into CO all thoughts of returning to NM vanished. the relatively green, high, snowy mtns and cool days of SW CO sucked me in and we've bummed around Fruita & Durango a bit.
Fruita is more like Moab, Durango is more like Ouray. both are beautiful but the greener, higher Durango is more my jam. but Rose got to chase ~ 20 deer and we saw a few more elk so I suppose my chaffed raw ankles were worth it. and i spose the views were pretty awesome too The crown on the van is such that I had to lift the roof rack cross bars about 2" above point where the factory installed nuts are. Note, when you pull up the waterproof plugs and expect to use the factory nuts in the roof, they may not be concentric with the holes in the roof! See pic...so, I had to cut the roof just a bit to use the roof nuts. I cobbled together my own roof rack system, based off Hein's system that he sells on Amazon and using shims that I had a friend 3D print. If I were to do it again I would definitely buy Hein's roof rack. It would be about the same price, look nicer, and be totally plug and play. Next I bought two 160W Renogy panels and a 20' iGreeley solar cable. Note that I ran the wires through an existing hole (again covered with the factory waterproof plug) in the rear of the van and used rubber grommets to protect the wires from the sharp-ish edge of the roof. I put a Renogy cable gland over the top to seal the cables going through the roof. I then cut the iGreeley cables to length (they come with only set of connectors already crimped on but the second set loose in a bag, expecting that you'll cut the cables to length) and crimped the other cable ends on with this. To connect the solar cables to the Yeti (and finally answer your question ) I used a GoalZero MC4 Solar to HPP Adapter Cable. I had originally bought an iGreeley cable adapter that was identical (same length, same connections) but the person at GZ told me their cable worked better so I was a sucker (maybe, who knows? ) and returned the iG and bought the GZ. I didn't do any comparisons but I'm guessing the cables would have worked identically well. Goal Zero calls their high power output a HPP. But, it's an Anderson Power Pole plug, rated at 30amps output. So, a GZ HPP is just an APP. The rest of the world calls it APP, GZ calls it HPP. Happy trails! interior wiring - I should have bought one 100' spool, I used about 60 - 70 feet for lights, ceiling fan, and water pump light switches lights roof Maxair fan adapter plusnuts plusnut install tool - this thing works awesome to install the plusnuts. I have a 20V impact cordless driver and it's so slick to install the plusnuts, highly recommend! blue sea systems 12V fuse bus iGreeley APP to 12V ring terminals - this is what plugs into the GZ HPP 30amp output (aka the APP output on the face of the GZ) and connects to the 12V fuse box |
